Hurricane Preparedness

Damage Assessment and Claims Reporting
  1. Conduct an initial site and damage assessment.
  2. Check for safety hazards such as power wires, leaking gas lines, downed or uprooted trees, blocked roof drains, etc.
  3. If you have a camera or video, take pictures of the damage including your contents.
  4. Make your own temporary repairs to mitigate further damage. Do not make permanent repairs on your home or business until an adjustor has inspected it.
  5. Secure your property to avoid potential hazards and injuries.
  6. Store damaged building materials to be examined later by your adjustor.
  7. Report your claim to our office or to one of the numbers on the Carrier Claims List.
  8. Call vendors to make temporary repairs to mitigate further damage.
  9. Obtain multiple estimates for final repairs.
  10. Organize receipts, photos and other documentation to review with the adjustor.
  11. We suggest you complete a Personal Property Inventory.
    1. Do this on a room-to-room basis.
    2. List the “Replacement Cost” of each item and its actual cash value.
    3. Have any documentation easily available (receipts, photos, canceled checks, credit card statements, warranty booklets, etc).
  12. Be available to meet with adjusters.
  13. If you have not heard from an adjustor within a reasonable time period, notify us immediately, so we may further assist you with your claim.
  14. If your damage does not exceed your deductible amount, we advise that you do not submit a claim.
